Today's Flashback Friday focuses on making backups faster and smaller. This topic is as relevant today as it was when we first blogged about it. Enjoy!
How to make your Domino backups faster and smaller
As you may be aware, the Domino server includes the Domino Backup component as one of it's more recent features. Domino Optimizer includes integration with the Domino Backup feature to deliver proven advantages in both physical and virtualized environments when compared to backing up the same Domino server without the Optimizer's unique process. The results have been measured time and again, the numbers do not lie.
Tick the Box in the Schedule and the databases will be Optimized and then backed up automatically as part of the scheduled database maintenance.
Test sample 21.9GB database backed up when maintained using the Domino Optimizer:
Same 21.9GB database backed up when NOT maintained using Domino Optimizer:
Below is the difference in server I/O Windows saw:
Test sample 21.9GB Database Backup I/O when maintained by the Domino Optimizer:
Same test sample 21.9GB Database Backup I/O when NOT maintained by the Domino Optimizer:
The advantages can be clearly seen during testing, as measured by the server O/S and seen depicted graphically when backing up a database, non-optimized versus the same database optimized (we have seen production Domino servers chock full of databases like this and the difference is massive).
Click here to give it a try! It's just one of the many benefits.
