Colour Coding the Log.nsf

Make Your Domino Logs Easier to Read with Colour Coding

Have you ever tried to scan through a wall of plain black text in search of one critical detail? It’s not fun. Colour coding is a simple yet powerful way to highlight what matters most, helping you spot important information instantly.

We’ve been leaning into this idea across various tools for Domino:

On the back of our Preemptive AI for Domino work, we’ve been exploring more ways to help Administrators identify issues faster. Tools like Events4 and DDM already do a great job, but my colleague Grant asked:  “How about colour coding log.nsf as well?”

So we did just that - Introducing Colour‑Coded Log.nsf

Each line in your log.nsf now displays a colour based on severity. It’s simple, effective, and makes scanning logs dramatically easier.

To enable it, just sign our updated template and replace the existing design of your log.nsf.

Best of all — we’re releasing it for free.

How to Get It

Unfortunately, since HCL hasn’t open‑sourced log.ntf, we can’t simply post the modified template here. Instead:

  • Create a new support ticket at preemptive.freshdesk.com.
  • Mention you’d like the colour‑coded log.nsf.
  • Attach a copy of your current log.ntf (this proves you already have it).
  • Once we receive your request, we’ll send you the updated version.

Happy colour coding!

If it’s useful for updating log templates, when we released DOMI on HCL’s GitHub, Rocky Oliver included code to copy design elements, based on configuration, into a template. We needed this to update the mail templates with our additional design elements.

Thank for the heads up Paul. I will check it out. Cheers.
