Ed's presentation at AusLUG

Ed put on a great presentation and for the first time the penny dropped on what IBM has been talking about with the social mail client.

He demoed the client and it looked great. No longer will the backend mail server matter.

The devil is always in the detail, but if IBM can ship this (and I'm sure they can) with support for Domino/Exchange/Google etc I think we've got a winner on our hands.

For the first time in a year I clearly understand what IBM has been talking about.

Thanks Ed.

If they are going to get out of the software business and just try to be a front end to everyone, Notes has been trying to do that for 20 years and it never caught on. If they don't push thier own software then it's just a matter of time before others will eat thier lunch and they will lose on all fronts. I think it is a loser plan.

Sorry I don't get why the social mail story implies 'they are going to get out of the software business' This is just inaccurate. IBMs gowth is all software based and Social mail is a software solution!

There is no chance they are getting out of the software business. I think their focus is on how to move with the market, and they are.
